IndyCar Sponsorship Rights: Driver, Car and Team

Use a public Arrow McLaren example to see why a partnership record needs precise assets, entries and dates.

One partner can have several placements

An IndyCar sponsorship record should identify the actual asset and time period, not just a brand and driver name. Team-level relationships can appear across several entries and events.

Arrow McLaren’s 5 June 2026 announcement described a Deloitte primary livery on Nolan Siegel’s No. 6 car at World Wide Technology Raceway. It also identified season-long branding on the No. 7 car’s tire ramps and an engine-cover placement on the No. 31 entry at that year’s Indianapolis 500. Read the team’s announcement.

This illustrates different placements and periods within one relationship. It does not establish that the driver personally sold those rights, or disclose the partner’s complete contract. The workflow below is our recommended planning approach, not a view into the team’s private records.

Record who controls each asset

Before proposing a driver appearance, team-channel post or car placement, identify who can authorize it. A driver’s personal account, a team’s car and an organizer’s venue inventory are not interchangeable.

  • Asset: the precise car, surface, channel, appearance or experience.
  • Controller: the person or organization able to grant it.
  • Period: one event, a date range or a defined season.
  • Approval: artwork, product statements, filming and publication decisions.
  • Dependencies: access, driver availability and any relevant category conflict.

Mark unconfirmed items as proposed. A prospect discussion should not make an asset look sold, and an expired proposal should not silently block inventory forever.

Use one line per commitment

Illustrative record: a proposed driver-channel product Reel, published on an agreed date, owned by the driver’s representative, with brand approval of product statements. A separate line covers a team-controlled car placement. The two lines can belong to the same opportunity without pretending the same person controls both.

When the package changes, update the affected lines and retain the agreed version. A different event, car or appearance can change production work and permissions. Record the decision and the person responsible for notifying the sponsor.

This is especially useful when a driver changes teams or a team changes its programme. Check the actual agreement rather than assuming the sponsorship automatically follows either the driver or the car.

Connect the record to delivery

The delivery owner should be able to find the approved artwork, dates and evidence without interpreting a vague deal title. At review time, compare the committed asset with what actually ran, and resolve any discrepancy.

Start with the driver versus team sponsorship guide. Then use the content approval workflow and change-plan guide to keep the agreement usable after the sale.
