Prepare Audience Evidence for a Championship Sponsorship Pitch

Build a dated audience evidence sheet that separates attendance, viewing, followers and campaign delivery without inflating reach.

Prepare an audience evidence sheet before using audience numbers in a championship sponsorship pitch. Record what each measure counts, where it came from and the period it covers. Then explain which part is relevant to the sponsor's intended audience.

Do not combine every available number into an impressive total. Attendance, followers, video views and broadcast audiences describe different things. Without a defensible method for combining them, present them separately.

Begin with the buying decision

Ask which people and markets the sponsor wants to reach. A championship's total activity may be less relevant than the information available for a particular region, event or content format. Show the evidence closest to the proposed campaign and describe its limitations.

If the objective concerns business guests, social reach may be useful context but cannot establish who attended a trade meeting. If the objective concerns consumer content, an entry list is not evidence of audience response.

Build a source ledger

Field Practical requirement
Measure Name and precise definition
Source Original report, export or responsible organisation
Period Actual dates covered
Coverage Channel, event, territory or sample
Method How the number was obtained
Limitation Overlap, missing channels or unresolved definition
Verified Date and person who checked the claim

Preserve the underlying report or an authorised reference. A screenshot without its date range or metric label is difficult to review. If a third party supplies the figure, ask for the definition rather than silently translating it into a more familiar term.

Distinguish distribution from consumption

A channel being available in a market does not establish the number of people who watched a particular programme. A post being published proves delivery, while platform reporting can describe the measured response within its own definitions.

Keep these statements separate in your pitch. “The agreed video was published” and “the video recorded the following views in this period” answer different questions. Neither alone demonstrates a sale or proves that every viewer noticed the sponsor.

Show uncertainty without weakening the whole proposal

A fictional championship may have reliable ticket scans and owned-channel analytics but no deduplicated cross-channel reach. It can present those two evidence sets and explicitly say that a combined audience figure is unavailable.

The commercial discussion can still focus on a defined activity with a credible measurement plan. Do not borrow another series' audience, apply a motorsport-wide growth rate or infer demographics from a few comments to conceal a data gap.

Agree the measurement plan for the proposed activity

Identify which evidence you can collect directly, which the sponsor holds and which requires a third party. Agree a reporting period and how the result will be interpreted before the campaign begins.

Record outputs, audience response and business outcomes in separate columns. Where attribution cannot be established, report the observed response and its limits. Recheck every statistic in the week of publication or send, and replace stale figures in all active proposal versions rather than updating only the master spreadsheet.
